Newcastle United could soon face another battle to keep one of their biggest stars — and this time, the threat is coming from Old Trafford.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Manchester United are preparing an audacious summer move for Sandro Tonali, with the report suggesting the Red Devils are willing to table a bid worth up to €100 million (£85m) to tempt Newcastle into selling.
But Ruben Amorim’s side are not alone.

Juventus have also entered the race for Tonali. They are reportedly prioritising a move to bring the 25-year-old back to Serie A. It sets up a direct clash between two European giants for a player who has quickly become one of the most valuable assets on Tyneside.
Newcastle transfer news: Manchester United want Sandro Tonali
Tonali’s arrival from AC Milan last summer was a landmark deal for Newcastle. The club paid £55 million to secure his services — a signing seen by many in Italy as a major loss for Serie A and a sign of the Premier League’s growing dominance.

His start in black-and-white was disrupted by a 10-month ban for breaching betting rules, but since returning in August, Tonali has hit his stride. The Italian has registered five goals and three assists in 42 appearances across all competitions this season, helping Newcastle to a League Cup triumph and a top-five Premier League finish within reach.
It is no surprise, then, that he has drawn admiring glances from Europe’s elite.
Newcastle hold the cards on Tonali’s future
Despite reports of a potential £85m offer, Newcastle are under no pressure to sell.
Tonali is under contract until 2028, and with the club’s long-term ambitions tied closely to players of his calibre, there is zero appetite at St James’ Park to sanction a sale — especially to a domestic rival. The Magpies have already held firm on Alexander Isak amid interest from Arsenal and Liverpool, with their £120m valuation forcing suitors to walk away.
In Tonali’s case, the stance is likely to be just as strong — if not stronger.
While Manchester United are hoping to spend big if they secure Champions League qualification via the Europa League final, their dismal domestic campaign leaves major question marks. Newcastle, by contrast, are building a platform for sustained success under Eddie Howe, with Tonali playing a central role in that vision.
Juventus lurking, but Newcastle remain confident
Juventus’ interest is real, but sources close to Newcastle suggest the club remain relaxed about Tonali’s future. There is a sense that he has unfinished business on Tyneside, and with the club finally ending their 56-year trophy drought, the project is clearly heading in the right direction.
