Newcastle United are expected to be busy in the ongoing transfer window as they look to reinforce their squad. They have already brought in Anthony Elanga for the right flank area, although he can operate in other areas as well. The Magpies still need a striker to partner with Alexander Isak and a centre-back.

Additionally, Newcastle could also benefit from a new central midfielder, especially if Sean Longstaff decides to leave the club this summer. And it seems that the Magpies already have someone in their sights. The player in question is Atletico Madrid’s Conor Gallagher. The 25-year-old midfielder left Chelsea just a year ago in 2024, but is now reportedly open to returning to the Premier League, and Newcastle could make that happen if they are willing to pay the amount stipulated by the Spanish side.

According to CaughtOffside, Atletico Madrid are not actively looking to part ways with Gallagher but would consider offers in the region of €45–50 million for the player.

Atletico Madrid asking €45–50 million to part ways with Newcastle target Conor Gallagher

Atletico Madrid bought Conor Gallagher for a price of €42 million, which is close to the amount they are currently asking for. Gallagher’s journey in Spain hasn’t got off to the start that he would have wanted. The player has failed to cement his place in the Atletico starting XI and has come off the bench in a significant number of his 50 appearances for the club last season.

Notably, Newcastle are not alone in the race for the England international, as Premier League clubs like Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest are also interested in the player. But as of now, the Magpies are the frontrunners to land Gallagher. Moreover, playing for Newcastle would offer the player Champions League football next season, which the other two clubs cannot provide. That said, it remains to be seen how things progress in the future.
