The wait is finally over. Newcastle United have officially announced their first major signing of the summer. Although the transfer window has been open for about a month, the Magpies had drawn a blank in terms of any notable signings. That is until now.
Going into the summer, Newcastle were looking to bring in a right winger. They were linked with multiple names, with Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga emerging as a top target. The Swedish winger has been on the club’s radar for quite some time, and the Magpies recently agreed on a deal with Forest for the transfer of the youngster.
However, fans had been eagerly awaiting an official announcement from the club. And to their delight, that has now arrived. Newcastle United have officially confirmed that Elanga is now a Magpie.
Anthony Elanga is now officially a Newcastle United player
Elanga was instrumental in Nottingham Forest’s impressive last season as they finished seventh in the league, missing Champions League qualification by a whisker. He scored six goals and provided 12 assists in 43 appearances in all competitions for Forest in the last campaign.
The former Manchester United academy product is expected to be given a starting role at St. James’ Park. He will join his international teammate Alexander Isak, who has enjoyed great success at the club. However, Isak is currently facing an uncertain future and could be on his way out this summer.
Nevertheless, with this important deal in the bag, Newcastle will have to focus on other areas of the pitch that need reinforcements, including a goalkeeper, a centre-back, and a striker. The arrivals and departures of the club in this transfer window will determine how the Magpies will line up next season. This signing is just the beginning, and fans will be hoping for some more new faces in the coming weeks.
