Newcastle United are expected to have a brand new look upfront next season. Callum Wilson has already left the club. Alexander Isak was also previously linked with an exit, but the Magpies are said to be unwilling to part ways with the player, so he will likely continue playing a major role moving forward. Additionally, the club is looking to bring in someone new to partner with the Swedish international.

Recently, Newcastle were handed a major setback when their target Joao Pedro snubbed them and decided to join Chelsea instead. Since then, the club has moved on to other targets. Hugo Ekitike is one of them and has been linked with a move to St James’ Park for quite some time. The Magpies have already failed twice before in their bid to bring in the player. But it looks like the club have reignited their interest in the player and are willing to take another swing.

According to the Telegraph, Newcastle have made the player’s representatives aware of their desire to sign Ekitike and will hope to agree a fee with the Bundesliga club.

Ekitike is currently under contract with Eintracht Frankfurt until 2029 and has a release clause of £86 million (€100 million). So, Newcastle will have to break the bank if they want to sign the player.

Ekitike has scored 22 goals and provided 12 assists in 48 appearances in all competitions this season for Frankfurt. These types of performances are hard to go unnoticed. And they certainly haven’t, as apart from Newcastle, the French international has also attracted interest from Premier League sides like Chelsea and Liverpool. As a result, the Magpies could expect a tug-of-war scenario for the player, which could push the price further up.
