Newcastle United’s transfer window has been an underwhelming one, to say the least. The Magpies have brought in Anthony Elanga as their only major signing so far. Meanwhile, they have lost their striker Callum Wilson following the player’s departure after his contract expired, and have sold Sean Longstaff to newly promoted side Leeds United.
To top it all off, Alexander Isak has now let Newcastle know of his desire to leave this summer. This has created a new headache for the club, who have too many things to handle at the moment. The Magpies have already intensified their search for reinforcements in the centre-forward role.
Among the many candidates the club have been linked with, RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko has recently come out as a possible option. However, it looks like Sesko isn’t the only RB Leipzig striker in Newcastle’s sights, as reports have claimed that the Magpies are interested in Sesko’s teammate as well.
Give Me Sport have reported that Newcastle are considering entering the race to sign Lois Openda. The report further states that the Magpies will need to act fast if they want to secure the deal, as Serie A giants like Inter Milan are also fighting for the player’s signature.
Newcastle United considering a move for Lois Openda
Openda was a regular for RB Leipzig last season, making 45 appearances across all competitions for the Bundesliga giants. He scored 13 goals and provided 11 assists.
It’s highly unlikely that Leipzig would allow both of their strikers, Sesko and Openda, to leave in the same window. So, despite being linked with both players, Newcastle will have to choose between them.
On paper, it’s too close to call between the two, as Sesko has scored more goals, but when it comes to assists, Openda has the edge. From the numbers, it’s quite clear that Newcastle can’t go wrong with either of the two RB Leipzig strikers. But whichever player the Magpies decide on, they will have to act quickly and decisively to secure the signing.
