Newcastle United are staring at another disappointing transfer window if things don't pick up pace soon. They have managed just one significant outfield signing in the form of Anthony Elanga so far, and their only other major signing is that of goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, who joined the club on a season-long loan.
While the Magpies have been pushing to bring reinforcements for the attack for quite a while now, they have still not been able to get any striker deal over the finish line. That said, the club have identified Benjamin Sesko as one of their primary targets and had even launched a €80 million bid including bonuses for the Slovenian player a while ago.
Nevertheless, RB Leipzig deemed the offer insufficient and rejected it. However, recent reports have provided a major update regarding the deal. According to Fabrizio Romano, who posted on X, Newcastle have sent an improved official bid to RB Leipzig for Benjamin Sesko worth a €90m package (€80m plus €10m add-ons).
However, Romano further stated that no decision has been made by the player yet. Meanwhile, Manchester United have confirmed again to Leipzig that they will bid if Sesko picks them over the Magpies.
Newcastle United submit improved bid to RB Leipzig for Benjamin Sesko
Newcastle’s primary striker situation is still facing uncertainty until a new forward is signed, and the club seems to be trying their best to make it happen as soon as possible. Despite Alexander Isak’s wishes to leave St James’ Park, the Magpies are not willing to open the doors to his exit without securing someone first.
Sesko, who scored 21 goals last season for Leipzig, could be the perfect candidate to lead the attack next season for Newcastle. At just 22 years old, the player possesses what it takes to become one of the best in his position.
While Manchester United are also in the race for the player, Newcastle hold a major advantage due to their qualification for next season’s Champions League. That said, the Red Devils have already gotten one over the Magpies with the signing of Bryan Mbeumo and shouldn’t be taken lightly. It remains to be seen whether Newcastle can return the favour this time.
