Newcastle’s arrivals list for this summer paints an abysmal picture when looked upon. The Magpies have managed to secure just two major signings till now as we enter the final month of the transfer window. Their first signing came in the form of Anthony Elanga, with Aaron Ramsdale joining recently on a season-long loan.
However, Newcastle are still in search of reinforcements to bolster their attack and also the backline. The need for a striker is a well-known fact by now. But a defensive signing is also of utmost importance before next season. The club have been linked with a number of defenders as potential candidates. Now, it seems that the Magpies have set their focus back on one of their long-time targets.
The Goal have reported that Newcastle United are considering reigniting their interest in Marc Guehi, for whom they placed three different bids last summer but saw each one get rejected.
Newcastle United considering a move for their long-time target Marc Guehi
Newcastle faced a major injury crisis last season. Jamaal Lascelles missed the entire 2024–25 season due to a cruciate ligament injury, while Sven Botman and Lewis Hall also missed a significant number of matches. The club will certainly want to avoid a repeat of that situation.
Guehi appeared in 44 matches for Crystal Palace in all competitions last season. The 25-year-old has established himself as a regular for both club and country. So, Newcastle reigniting their interest in the player is understandable.
Palace are reportedly asking for a price of £50 million for the English defender, who has just a year left on his contract. But the Magpies are willing to offer £40 million as of now.
Apart from Newcastle, clubs like Liverpool and Chelsea are also interested in the player and could potentially match the Eagles’ valuation. The Magpies will have to give serious thought to whether they can really afford to let another key target slip away. If the club are serious about securing Guehi’s signature, they might want to return to the negotiating table and work toward finding a middle ground with Palace before another club beats them to it.
