Newcastle United: Benitez must have his ‘ambitions’ matched by the club

Newcastle United’s manager offers a statement of intent for the future.

Newcastle United and Rafa Benitez have achieved their goals for the 2017-18 season, confirming their spot in the Premier League for the next campaign. The Toon’s manager wants to reach new levels, and that will require a massive commitment from owner Mike Ashley.

At his Friday press conference, Benitez spoke of several areas that have helped to boost the squad in recent weeks. Currently in the midst of a four-match winning run, the Spanish tactician will surely want to continue that trend when the squad travel to play Everton on Monday.

When reflecting upon his time at St. James’ Park thus far, the 58-year-old coach stated that he wants to understand the club’s vision for the future. “My idea now is to sit down with the club and see if the club has these same ambitions.”

Benitez wants to push the Magpies further, and desires more than simply remaining in the top flight.

Qualifying for Europe and competing for domestic titles should be priorities moving forward, and United’s manager needs to know that the board feel the exact same way.

Rumours of other sides interested in Benitez have surfaced recently, and it feels as if this summer will be a key moment in the North East.

A collective spirit

From the players to the fans, there is a positive feeling amongst all involved with the Toon. In order for that to continue, there must also be progression.

Benitez must be able to spend in the transfer market on the individuals that can improve the team, and he has proven that he can succeed with the proper backing in the past.
