Newcastle United has been off to a remarkable start in their new Premier League campaign. With 10 points out of a possible 12, the Magpies club currently stands at the 3rd position in the PL table. In fact, if they do manage to win their upcoming fixture against Fulham, not only would they go top of the table, but it could be one of the club's best starts to a PL campaign ever.
Harvey Barnes: Newcastle's standout performer from the season so far
However, while certain names have been crucial in the club's remarkable campaign so far, one name that has stood out has been Harvey Barnes. Not to forget, the 26-year-old winger was impressive last season as well; however, injuries influenced much of his campaign, with him making only 23 appearances in 2023/24. But, this season, the youngster has been much more important to the club, emerging as one of the standout stars.
With his 3 goal contributions in the 5 appearances in all competitions for Newcastle, the Englishman has been effective in whatever game time he has played. More importantly, his contributions have mostly come when the club needed it the most, with the 26-year-old emerging as the club's savior.
Despite having only 2 starts and coming 3 times for the later part of the game, his goal contributions have been instrumental in the club's favor. Be it his assist to wingmate Anthony Gordon in securing a tie against Bournemouth, giving the team the lead against Tottenham, and pulling the game with a golazo against Wolves, Barnes has been exceptional for Newcastle this season.
In fact, his recent performances have put Newcastle boss Eddie Howe in a rather dilemmatic situation on who to pick for the left-wing role. However, fortunately for Barnes, reports suggest that going forward, he stands significant chances of being entrusted for the left flank, while Gordon switches either to the front or the right flank.
Overall, it has been a dream start for Harvey Barnes, both collectively as well as individually. Given the winger's mavericks for Newcastle, it is certain that he might become a starter soon and not just continue in the super sub role. Newcastle fans would have high hopes for the 26-year-old, as they believe he could be key to the club's successful season ahead.
