Gordon's 77th-minute equalizer saves a point for Newcastle from the 2nd PL matchday
- Anthony Gordon's 77th-minute finish secured a point for Newcastle United against Bournemouth.
- With 4 points from the first 2 Premier League matchdays, Howe's side finds itself in the 6th position.
Newcastle United have ended their 2nd Premier League matchday, sharing the points with the home side Bournemouth in a competitive draw. While it was certain that Bournemouth wouldn't let the Magpies club bag a comfortable 3 points, Howe's side did much better than their performance against Southampton.
Coming into the fixture with a draw against Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth had to extract significant points from the game, but a late winner from Gordon halted their idea of finishing with a win. Overall, it was a brilliant team effort from the Magpies club to have the spirit of pulling back some points and not accepting their fate till the end.
From the very beginning, the fixture looked set to become one of the memorable fixtures between the two English clubs. Since the initial minutes, both clubs were on the lookout to bag some early goals. In fact, Bournemouth's winger Semenyo had almost brought the club its first goal; however, the Magpies club remained fortunate enough to get it off the post.
However, just 10 minutes after the brilliant attempt for goal, Semenyo, with a beautiful play, took the ball from Joelinton and found an assist to Tavernier, who finished it past Pope without much difficulty. Though attempts from both sides were created on a regular basis, the scoreline remained stiff for a major portion of the remaining minutes.
It was the 77th minute when an exquisite cross from the English talent Harvey Barnes found his wingmate Anthony Gordon, who brought back Newcastle in the game. Even though Newcastle star Gordon hasn't been in much action recently, he gave the Magpies fans a glimpse of what he would do in the season ahead.
The fixture ended with the scoreline reading 1-1 at the end, and with this draw, Newcastle currently finds themselves in the 6th position. While this is just the beginning of the Premier League campaign, the club needs to push harder if they want to finish into their dream top 4 spots, securing the UCL berth for the next campaign.
