Newcastle United’s transfer window has been turned upside down in the last few weeks. After a slow start and a number of targets joining rival clubs, the Magpies have come back strong and secured five new signings which is soon to be six.
Meanwhile, Alexander Isak has left for Liverpool for a Premier League record fee of £130 million. This has left Newcastle thin in the forward department, as they also lost Callum Wilson at the start of the summer after the player’s contract ran out.
However, it looks like Newcastle have already secured the signature of their long-time transfer target to fill that spot. According to Fabrizio Romano, Yoane Wissa to Newcastle is done. A deal worth £55 million has been verbally agreed between the clubs, and Brentford have accepted the formal proposal from the Magpies. Wissa is set to travel to undergo his medical soon.
Newcastle United agree £55 million deal to sign Yoane Wissa
Wissa has been pushing for a move to Newcastle in a similar fashion to Isak and refused to play for Brentford. Recently, he even requested the Bees to let him leave for St James' Park. Well, it looks like his request has been granted and Magpies fans will be really happy with this deal.
Wissa emerged as the sixth-highest scorer in the Premier League in the 2024–25 season, having scored 19 goals. We hope that the player will be able to continue his good form, or better yet, even improve upon it.
Newcastle are yet to secure a win this season, and a major reason for that is the lack of a clinical striker up front. On that note, the club will soon have two well-capable forwards at their disposal to truly get things going this season.
Eddie Howe’s men will be back on 13th September following the international break. Until then, the newly arrived faces will have time to integrate into the squad, and the manager will look to tweak his tactics accordingly. Additionally, the transfer deadline day isn’t over yet, so who knows, there may still be another signing to come.
