Newcastle’s squad is set to undergo several changes in the ongoing transfer window and the process has already started. In terms of arrivals, they have brought in Anthony Elanga as their first major signing and have also signed youngster Antonito Cordero on a free transfer.
Meanwhile, in terms of prominent departures, Lloyd Kelly, who was sent on loan to Juventus, has decided to join the Italian giants permanently, and Callum Wilson has left the Magpies as his contract has expired. In addition, Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that another Newcastle player is set to leave the club.
Romano recently posted on X stating that Leeds United have reached an agreement with Newcastle for the transfer of Sean Longstaff for an amount of £12 million. He further stated that the Magpies have authorised the midfielder to undergo medical at Leeds.
Sean Longstaff set to join newly promoted side Leeds United
Despite Longstaff leaving, the Magpies still have a strong midfield with the likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali, Joelinton, Joe Willock to name a few. And with the transfer window still open for a long time, the club could bring in someone new as well in the future.
Longstaff was a regular during the first half of the last season but slipped down the pecking order in the later part of the campaign, which could be one of the reasons behind his decision to leave. Longstaff appeared in a total of 214 matches across all competitions for Newcastle.
The 27-year-old midfielder is a local and has come through the youth system of the club. He has spent most of his career playing for the Magpies and was loved by the fans. So, this transfer will certainly leave a sad feeling in the fans’ hearts. Anyways, we wish Longstaff good luck for his future endeavours.
