Newcastle United’s transfer activity is in full swing after the club recently brought in their first major signing in the form of Anthony Elanga for the right wing position. The club is well aware that squad depth will be necessary in the next season, especially with the Champions League on the horizon. As a result, the Magpies are willing to further strengthen their frontline and are now on the lookout for a new striker to partner with Alexander Isak.
Among the many names that were being considered for the striker role, one has gained real momentum recently. It was earlier reported that Newcastle have Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike on their radar. Now, it has been confirmed that the club have taken a significant step towards securing the French youngster.
Fabrizio Romano has stated in a post on X that Newcastle have submitted an official bid today to Frankfurt for Ekitike. The proposal is said to be higher than the €70 million that was previously offered by another club this summer.
Newcastle submits first official bid in excess of €70 million for Hugo Ekitike
If Ekitike joins Newcastle for an amount greater than €70 million it will set a new club record transfer fee. Nevertheless, the price could be justified given the French forward brings the form he has shown in this past season.
Interestingly, this is the third approach of the Magpies for Ekitike, having missed out on the player twice during his time at Stade de Reims. Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is said to be a fan of Ekitike and will hope to add the player to his squad soon.
It’s no secret that Newcastle have been long-time admirers of Ekitike. Fans would be thrilled if the club finally manages to get this deal over the line. However, nothing can be said for certain until the signature is on the paper. For now, we’ll just have to wait and watch.
