Newcastle United seem to be on the right path lately to turn things around in this transfer window. They have previously brought in Anthony Elanga and Aaron Ramsey as the two major signings. Additionally, they have recently completed a deal with AC Milan for Malick Thiaw as well.
Nevertheless, Newcastle need a new striker as the Alexander Isak situation is still not resolved. The player is adamant on leaving St James’ Park, although the Magpies have made it clear that the Swedish international won't be allowed to depart this summer. Meanwhile, Newcastle are pushing to get another deal over the line but it isn’t that of a striker, and rather a versatile left-midfielder.
Fabrizio Romano has recently posted on X, revealing that Newcastle United are closing in on Jacob Ramsey deal with Aston Villa. Agreement almost done for a £40m package as the clubs are finalising the deal. Despite West Ham’s approach, Ramsey only wants Newcastle and a move is now imminent.

Although not stressed enough, Newcastle needed some reinforcements in the midfield, especially after they recently sold Sean Longstaff to Leeds United. While it’s true that the Magpies already possess players like Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali, Joelinton, Joe Willock and Lewis Miley, it’s never a bad idea to keep backups ready in a long season with multiple trophies up for grabs.
Moreover, Ramsey tends to operate more on the left side of the midfield and can also play as a left winger, which would allow Gordon to get some rest from time to time.
The English international made 45 appearances in all competitions for Villa last season, scoring four goals and providing seven assists. So, there’s little doubt that Ramsey would be a great addition to Eddie Howe’s squad.
All things considered, it looks like Newcastle are well within reach of their next summer signing, and fans could expect Romano’s signature 'Here we go' soon. But until then, it’s a matter of wait and watch.
