Newcastle United agrees to personal terms with Axel Disasi
By Cade Cracas
Newcastle United has been in the market for a new left-back for quite some time now, and recent reports suggest the team is heading knee-deep into the water to find their next starter.
On Monday, July 17, the Magpies kicked off the start of the new week with reports that they have agreed to personal terms with Monaco defender, Axel Disasi, despite not making a bid for him just yet.
Disasi has been a key target for a number of Premier League clubs in recent years, but one in particular, Manchester United, has been leading the charge.
For the Magpies, this is important as it shows the club is willing to go against some of the top dogs and attempt to bring in their targets. This helps to keep the market competitive and boosts the stock of Newcastle as they look to round the curve and become one of the top clubs in the Premier League.
The club is looking to bolster its defensive line, especially with the likes of Fabian Schar and Kieran Trippier approaching a decline due to age.
Others such as Matt Targett and Dan Burn, struggled for the team for the entirety of the 2022-23 Premier League season.
Bringing in a player like Disasi, who is just 25 years old, could instantly bolster the squad’s depth.
Last season for Monaco, he scored three goals and dished off three assists in 38 appearances and the season prior, he knocked in just one goal.
As a defender, having that versatility on your back line is important. Disasi would provide the Magpies with continued offensive support, while also being able to stretch the field and close out defensively when need be.
While it has not yet been confirmed that an offer has been made to Monaco for Disasi, it is expected that the club will be making one in due time. After all, the Magpies did agree to terms with the player himself, showing a mutual interest between the two parties.
His worth of £30-40 million is easily within reach for Newcastle as the club has an abundance of funds to utilize.
In the coming weeks, expect an official offer to be made for the young Monaco defender.
