Fabian Schar has dropped the biggest hint yet that he would like to extend his contract with Newcastle United by saying that he can imagine staying at the club beyond the end of the season.

Newcastle United are already busy making plans for next season and have been linked with a host of names in recent weeks. But they also have an important decision to make on Fabian Schar’s future, with the defender’s current contract set to expire at the end of the season.

Eddie Howe said last week that Newcastle United are planning to open contract talks with Schar’s representatives in the coming weeks. And the 30 year old has now hinted that he would like to stay at the club In an interview with SRF, Schar said that he feels very comfortable at Newcastle United.

"“Everyone at the club knows how comfortable I feel in this team and under this coach,” Schar said. “I can well imagine staying at Newcastle beyond the summer. It wasn’t always like that; things weren’t always good for me under the old owner. The next few weeks will show how things will go for me. Newcastle are certainly my priority.”"

Fabian Schar has enjoyed a new lease of life since Eddie Howe’s arrival

Schar has gone from strength to strength in recent weeks and has established himself as an important player for Newcastle United since Eddie Howe’s arrival. The Magpies will no doubt look to bolster their defence in the summer transfer window, but the Swiss international will still have a crucial role to play next season.

Schar has made 18 appearances so far this season, and has started each of Newcastle United’s last nine games in the English Premier League.

Schar will be looking to continue his fine run of form in the coming weeks as Newcastle look to end the season on a high. And if he keeps performing like this, it will only be a matter of time before he gets offered a new contract.
