Newcastle United has been rumored to be playing the field as they look to find a left-back to help round out their defense in the coming offseason.
One player constantly hoping to find a new home is Aresenal’s left-back Kieran Tierney, who’s been cast into a deep shadow, given little to no action with the club. However, Newcastle seems to be keen on bringing him to the Magpies this offseason.
Since Arsenal brought in defender Oleksandr Zinchenko this past offseason, he has thrived and taken over as the starting back. Unfortunately for Tierney, this drastically pushed him out of the rotation and gave him little room for error.
The Scotland international is reportedly looking for a new home, and Newcastle United could be that perfect fit.
Not only is the team in need of a left-back, but they also are looking to round out their lineup in hopes of a Champions League push in the 2023-24 season. With the inconsistent play of Dan Burn, the lackluster production from the recent signing of Matt Targett and the under usage of Jamal Lewis, the signing of Tierney makes sense.
For Tierney, he leaves a good team like Arsenal, for a good team in Newcastle, so the drop in competition level is little to none.
Throughout his time with Arsenal, he has provided a consistent presence defensively, while also being a spark on the offensive side of things, something Newcastle needs from their defenders.
Currently, his worth sits at just €25 million, which is an easy target for Newcastle United to hit with their recent takeover from their Saudi Arabian owners.
With Newcastle Manager Eddie Howe having ties to Tierney since 2019 when he tried to sign him during his time with Bournemouth, this only makes more and more sense as time continues on.
