Callum Wilson spent several months on the sidelines with an injury but has made his return to the pitch for Newcastle United recently. And somehow, he still is the club’s highest goal scorer of the season till now, having found the back of the net just six times till now. This just goes on to show the Magpies’ need to bring in another striker in the summer.

Or maybe, it does not. One also has to remember the fact that Wilson never got the chance to play in the Newcastle United team which has transformed into one of the most in-form in Europe since the turn of the year. The six goals that he scored was for a side that had looked destined for relegation.

Many had written the Magpies and their chances of staying up off. But not only have they managed to stay up, they have also gotten some statement wins along the way.

And it looks like it has given players like Wilson a lot of confidence about the side as well. As reported by Chronicle Live, he said after the 2-0 win against Arsenal:

"“It was an unbelievable atmosphere. Early on in the season everyone wrote us off and we were relegated by Christmas time. But we’ve dug deep and proved everybody wrong.“I’ve noticed a difference [coming back into the team]. I’m getting a lot more chances and we’re keeping the ball better.”"

Wilson makes massive Newcastle United claim after they get big win over Arsenal

Newcastle United’s win vs Arsenal is expected to have a huge impact on the Premier League top four race.

It leaves Arsenal’s hopes of qualifying for the Champions League hanging by a thread with only a point in their last game of the season expected to be enough to send Tottenham Hotspur through to the group stage of next season’s competition.

Thus, even though Newcastle United might have finished quite some distance away from the top four themselves, they have managed to leave their mark on it nonetheless. Hopefully, come next season, the Magpies will be in the mix as well.
