Newcastle United might have been one of the most in-form teams in the Premier League since the turn of the year but we got to see a glimpse of the distance that Eddie Howe’s side still have to cover if they are to compete with the top teams in England. Liverpool completely outplayed The Magpies at St James’ Park and the 1-0 scoreline did not reflect how one-sided it looked like at times.

That has been one of the weakness of this Newcastle United team. While they have done brilliantly against most teams, they do tend to struggle a bit when they come up against the Big Six.

They are in the right direction though and with the right additions in the summer transfer window, hopefully they will take their game to that next level in the upcoming campaign.

One player who has not been at the top of his game recently is Allan Saint-Maximin and his performance against Liverpool left a lot to be desired. Tim Sherwood even felt that the Frenchman was getting ‘lazy’. As reported by HITC, the former Tottenham Hotspur manager told Optus Sport:

"“If it goes in behind, there’s no room [for Newcastle]. The crowd are getting frustrated because Saint-Maximin is getting lazy. They call it lazy.”"

Saint-Maximin’s recent performances have not been great to be very honest as he has struggled for his best form for a while now.

On top of his game, the French winger has the ability to be one of the best in the Premier League but unfortunately, Newcastle United fans have not seen that kind of display from him very often over the past few months.

Some recent rumours have even linked Saint-Maximin with a move away from the club although that does not appear to be on the cards right now. But do not be surprised if Newcastle United add to their options on the wings this summer.
