After Leeds United defeated Fulham yesterday, Newcastle United have a chance to extend their cushion above the relegation zone vs. Brighton. A win would push them five points clear with a match in-hand.

The Seagulls sit one position and one point ahead of Newcastle, which should make this a winnable match for Steve Bruce’s side. But, the betting odds show that a victory for the Magpies isn’t a likely result.

ActionNetwork.com has Newcastle United listed at +560 to pick up all three points at The Amex. On the opposite end, Brighton are -150 favorites in the battle between two sides squarely in the relegation battle.

A win for Newcastle would be their first over Brighton in the Premier League. The Magpies are winless in their last seven matchups in the series.

Newcastle United are heavy underdogs in a crucial matchup vs. Brighton today.

The odds for a draw are +260 and not a bad bet as four of those seven recent fixtures between the clubs were level at the final whistle.

For today’s matchup, the goal total is set for 1.5. Unsurprisingly, the over is set at +130 and the under is -162. Last season, both fixtures between the sides ended in scoreless draws.

Brighton only have one multi-goal match in their last eleven Premier League matches and Newcastle have struggled offensively, especially without their three attacking stars. The expected goals (xG) were listed at 2.28 as of yesterday.

Bruce’s side has drawn three straight matches. In two of those matches, Wolves and Aston Villa, Newcastle were listed as underdogs while they were projected by the bookies to win vs. West Brom.
