Newcastle United have struggled since before the calendar flipped to 2021, dropping them into a true relegation battle. One of the silver linings for the Toon Army was that the schedule included some winnable matches, but they have struggled to defeat clubs that they should be able to.

Now, just two points ahead of Fulham (who does have one more match played), Newcastle have a crucial matchup vs. Brighton and Hove Albion, who sit one point above them on the table. While it looks like a match that Steve Bruce’s side should win, recent history shows that this could be another frustrating weekend for Newcastle fans.

The Magpies are winless in their last seven fixtures vs. Brighton. Coincidentally, those seven matches are the only times the clubs have faced off in the Premier League. For Bruce, he’s only won three of his 13 matches vs. Brighton across his managerial career.

For Newcastle United’s last win in the series vs. the Seagulls, you will need to go back to 2017 when both clubs were in the second division. Each side would earn automatic promotion that season, but it was Newcastle that took all six points from Brighton.

Newcastle United have never defeated Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League.

During the current seven-match slide for Newcastle vs. Brighton, the action on the pitch usually isn’t overly fun to watch for either fan base. Three of those matches have been scoreless draws, two were 1-0 wins for Brighton, and another was a 1-1 stalemate.

In total, the two clubs have played 27 matches. Brighton holds the edge with 11 wins to Newcastle’s nine to go along with seven draws. NUFC won the first three meetings by a combined score of 12-0.

While they may not blow them out like that on Saturday, Newcastle United will need to end their current slump vs. the Seagulls.
