Newcastle United’s winning streak ended with a boring loss to Everton yesterday.

In a rare Monday fixture for Newcastle United, Everton came away with the 1-0 victory over the Magpies. Theo Walcott scored the lone goal in the second half at Goodison Park.

Top Toons

Islam Slimani: Finally, Slimani started up top for the Magpies. He is a difference maker at striker and can do a variety of things for the club. Hopefully, he’ll start the rest of the matches.

Kenedy: He had a lot of energy and did well to open Ayoze Perez up a couple of times in the attack. The Chelsea loanee continues to show his worth to the club.

Mediocre Magpies

Ayoze Perez: The Spaniard didn’t have the necessary final ball quality on Monday. He should have set up Slimani for an easy goal rather than shoot himself, and he blasted a shot well over the bar on a dangerous chance.

Martin Dubravka: Despite only allowing one goal, it was not a great performance from Dubravka. He was slow to react on a few occasions and needed to control the cross that led to Walcott’s goal.

Quick Kicks

-While Dubravka has been very good since arriving on loan, one negative is his quickness in getting off his line to intercept a cross. He seems a bit heavy footed in that department, on the goal and on a couple of crosses yesterday.

-There absolutely should have been a penalty given on the Everton handball in the area. Referees seem to always lean towards a no-call on those types of plays and it sometimes robs teams of deserved penalty kicks.

-I can’t blame Dwight Gayle for missing the chance up close in the second half. It would have been a quality equalizer, but he couldn’t twist his body enough to get a good shot on frame.

-Newcastle United must buy Kenedy. While he was great in spurts today, his impact is always noticeable and the club is entirely different with him than without him.
