Newcastle United: Shearer and Quinn comment on Rafa Benitez’s future
By Roy Emanuel
Two former players recently discussed Newcastle United’s manager, and how long he may be on Tyneside.
Newcastle United and manager Rafa Benitez have accomplished their mission this season, as the club have avoided relegation and are displaying great quality in recent weeks. There is quite a bit to like about the direction in which the Magpies are heading, but there is some concern that their coach will not be with the team moving forward.
The relationship between Benitez and club owner Mike Ashley has not been perfect, and financial issues have been at the heart of their troubles. In a short span of time, the Spanish tactician has seen several transfer windows bring only frustration, and some believe that he could walk away from St. James’ Park.
In response to Ian Ladyman of The Daily Mail on Twitter this past weekend, Toon legend Alan Shearer expressed his understanding of the situation and why Benitez may leave Tyneside.
The former striker sees the frustration, as Ashley is not providing Newcastle with the funds to reach the next level.
The support is present, but the club need more if they are to make another run at the top of the Premier League table in the future.

Mick Quinn recently had a similar take on the situation, and acknowledged that money will have a big impact on Benitez’s ultimate decision.
Money talks or Benitez walks
Both former United forwards essentially describe the current situation for fans in simple terms, as it will be up to the owner to decide what the future will be.
Additional transfer resources or the sale of the Magpies would likely keep their manager in the North East, and Ashley can’t afford to wait too long when others in Europe are keen to sign him.

Newcastle United and Rafa Benitez want to improve upon what has been built during the past two years together, though so much of it still depends on Mike Ashley’s choices.
