Few footballers can truly define their clubs, coming to represent so much of what occurs on the pitch and in the hearts of supporters. Alan Shearer was just that for Newcastle United, and left a legendary legacy at St. James’ Park.
Leadership, desire and determination are certainly qualities that come to mind when describing the English striker, but it was the excitement that he brought that will always remain unforgettable.
And more times than not, that excitement came through in Shearer’s incredible goalscoring abilities.
The Gosforth native is number one on the all-time Premier League scoring list, netting an astounding 260 goals.
Shearer’s sense of positioning and timing were uncanny, as he was able to anticipate moves from defenders and create opportunities in the final third.
The sheer power of his strikes was at times jaw-dropping, as opposing goalkeepers often did not want to stand in the way of one of his powerful shots.
It can be difficult to narrow down all of Shearer’s Newcastle goals, as there were so many that fans remember like they were yesterday.
