The Newcastle United full-back is not going anywhere any time soon, and that is due to his consistently positive output.

Newcastle United and manager Rafa Benitez know that they will require complete team performances for the rest of the season to avoid relegation, like their massive win against Manchester United. In order to accomplish that, the Magpies will need maximum effort from their players.

Paul Dummett has been an individual working extremely hard during the past few weeks, and that attitude was rewarded on Thursday in the form of a new contract. Newcastle signed the left-back to an extension that could keep him at St. James’ Park until 2022.

The 26-year-old was in high spirts, and with good reason. Dummett has been a part of the Toon since joining the academy ranks as a child.

The defender has shown a remarkable work-rate on and off the pitch, as even injuries have not kept him from producing in 2017-18.

Out of action for months following the season opener against Tottenham, Dummett has been a reliable part of the United back-line and has truly earned Benitez’s trust with his play.

A noticeable impact

If the Magpies are to avoid another season in the Championship, the defence will have to be at their absolute best. That will require all defenders battling to close down space and deny the opposition of clear goalscoring opportunities.

The debut of Martin Dubravka at goalkeeper will help in achieving that objective, but Dummett’s passion and desire will also be a key component. He communicates well with his team-mates, and has displayed a firm grasp on what his coaches want to see from him.

A part of the club for so long, it is also inspiring for the current academy players to see one of their own succeed at the highest of levels.
