A look at Newcastle United’s all-time best goalkeepers.

For a football club to be successful, they will require their team to work together effectively as a collective unit. Each position will have detailed responsibilities and particular roles, but none is as unique as that of the goalkeeper. And Newcastle United have been fortunate to have had several incredible individuals fill that spot in their history.

Tasked with organising the back-line and communicating with team-mates, a keeper’s duties go beyond simply saving goals. The best in the business understand positioning and coming off their line at the right moments, along with greater skill with the ball at their feet.

The Magpies have recently enjoyed consistent contributions from Rob Elliot, the choice as a starter heading into the current term.

The 2017-18 season has seen many ups and downs at the back, and it now appears that January signing Martin Dubravka is ready to take control of the number one spot.

While the Toon Army only have seen one match from the Slovak international thus far, it was an impressive display that helped to earn a massive win against Manchester United.

There are also times where a youth talent does not make the desired impact on the first team, such as Fraser Forster. The Southampton keeper was a product of Newcastle’s academy, but eventually moved on to Celtic where his career truly blossomed.

From cup titles to the push for promotion, United have enjoyed stability in the line-up throughout the years with many remarkable keepers driving the team forward.

We offer a highlight and review of Newcastle United’s all-time top ten goalkeepers in their history.
