Newcastle United settled for a point at home against Swansea City.

Playing the bottom of the table residing Swansea City, Newcastle United couldn’t come away with three points at home. Jordan Ayew struck first for the Swans and substitute Joselu equalized less than ten minutes later.

Top Toons

DeAndre Yedlin: The American speedster came up huge for Newcastle United. He stepped in to make a crucial clearance when Ciaran Clark got too far forward, stopped a shot in front of goal when Karl Darlow ran off his line, and snuffed out counter-attacks all match. Yedlin was also lively in the attack.

Jonjo Shelvey: One of the better performances for the mercurial midfielder. He was constantly looking forward and sending passes into dangerous areas.

Joselu: Coming on as a substitute, Joselu buried his only chance and leveled the match. This finish was especially enjoyable due to his poor form this season.

Mediocre Magpies

Dwight Gayle: While Joselu put home his only chance, Gayle let all of his opportunities go by the wayside. He had two headed chances right in front of goal, one he sent softly on frame for an easy save, the other went well wide. He did put a shot home, but he was offside.

Ciaran Clark: He and Jamaal Lascelles got outworked by Ayew on the Swansea goal, but Clark’s on this list because he also pushed too far forward and lost the ball. Thankfully, Yedlin erased that mistake.

More from Newcastle Toons

-I didn’t think I would ever type this, but I hope Joselu starts next match over Gayle. The latter is in poor form and could use a spell on the bench.

-Completely disagree with Rafa Benitez subbing off Shelvey. He was finally playing a great match and seemed interested, only to be taken off late. He was clearly unhappy and I don’t blame him.

-Karl Darlow almost pulled a Darlow late, when he flew off his line and left the goal vacant. He did great to save Ayew’s original attempt and came close to making a heroic second stop.

-Christian Atsu and Ayoze Perez both provided some excitement and quality crosses.
