The January signing could be on the move from London already.

January transfers can be a risky move for some players, as there is only so little time to make an impact and learn to succeed with new team-mates. West Ham United midfielder Robert Snodgrass has struggled in London since his arrival at the start of 2017, and could be set for a move to Newcastle United.

Recent reports have the Scottish international being pursued by several clubs along with the Magpies, including Brighton and Leeds United.

More from Rumor Mill

Snodgrass signed with the Hammers for £10 million earlier this year.

He enjoyed strong spells with Leeds and Hull City in past seasons, and looked poised to continue in manager Slaven Bilic’s squad. Unfortunately, after 15 appearances and no goals, his short time at the club could be coming to an end.

The 29-year-old can be a strong signing, but it may not be the right move for Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez at this point.

A position that is already filled

The main issue with the potential transfer would be this week’s signing of English international Jacob Murphy from Norwich City. The youngster is certainly excited to join his boyhood club, and would likely occupy the same role as Snodgrass at Newcastle.

Along with Christian Atsu and Rolando Aarons, it would make more sense for the club to focus their financial energy in other areas. While the £10 million price tag would not be part of the equation, it would ultimately create an awkward situation in the team.

There are still positions of need that must be addressed, including goalkeeper and striker. Adding yet another wide midfielder will not be the answer as pre-season preparations continue for the Magpies.

The Premier League opener on August 13 approaches, and Newcastle United will want to ensure that they have the best possible squad available. Despite reported recent interest, West Ham’s Robert Snodgrass should not be a part of their plans.
