Newcastle United could revive a deal for Ukrainian winger Andriy Yarmolenko in January.

The Chronicle reported that the Magpies turned down a deal for Yarmolenko over the summer, but are now ready to swoop in January for a cut price deal.

Long time target Florian Thauvin was brought into the squad instead, while Remy Cabella moving back to France as part of the deal. However, he is yet to impress for Newcastle and could face himself on the fringe of the squad already.

The newspaper said that money was the main reason the Tyneside club turned down a deal, but as the 25-year-old’s contract is running down they could pick him up for a minimal fee.

He is currently valued at £16.80 million, but with his Dynamo Kiev deal running out in the summer of 2016, it will be a good time to swoop. If the player wants to leave, Kiev will have to sell in the winter or risk losing him for nothing in the summer.

Charlie Austin is another player in this bracket, and Newcastle are also interested in the Queens Park Rangers striker.

Yarmolenko is exactly the type of player that the Magpies should look to bring in during the upcoming transfer window. He is an experienced international, with goals at the highest level: he has played 53 times for the Ukraine and scored 20 goals.

He has also played 55 times in Europe, scoring 14 goals – so he has the type of experience that can only search the St. James’ Park side well.

Coming in during the January transfer window, he should be able to provide the impetus and kick start a stuttering season with his eye for goal and creative flair.

If Thauvin can get going during that period, Newcastle will suddenly find themselves well stocked on the wings and in possession of dangerous options.
