The final plans for Newcastle’s summer tour to America have been set.  A post on the Newcastle United website has unveiled the team will travel to several venues within the United States to play friendlies during their preparations for the upcoming season.  The stops include Milwaukee, Sacramento, and Portland.  This trip marks the first time the club travels to the United States since the summer of 2011.

The tour is designed to afford American based Newcastle fans an opportunity to see their favorite team in person and is a fantastic way to promote the club in the States.  These summer tours have become a tradition for European clubs hungry to promote to the rapidly developing soccer market that is the United States.  In fact my only time seeing Newcastle play in person was the 2011 tour when it made a stop at the Columbus Crew stadium.

The experience was great as members of American based chapters of the Toon Army stood and sang the entire match.  I was able to receive an introduction to the characters of the team including Fabricio Coloccini, Shola Ameobi and others. The overwhelming skill that the Premier League possesses put on a clinic for the helpless MLS side, dominating from beginning to end. Overall, the experience is very much worth a trip to the stadium and you might come away a life long fan.

The trip will be important for Newcastle as they will not only be looking to increase their visibility in America, but also to blend together the new players expected to be signed this transfer window.  The beginning of the Premier League season will be key for Newcastle as they look to improve on the relegation battle of last season.
