Jamie Redknapp questioned Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe on live TV about the absence of Sean Longstaff after their 3-1 loss to Brighton. Eddie Howe finally responded to that.

After their third straight loss in the Premier League, things have got tougher for Newcastle United and Eddie Howe as many people are asking questions about the team selection of the British manager. One person who asked a telling question to the Newcastle boss is Jamie Redknapp. He wanted to know the reason why Eddie Howe did not include Sean Longstaff in the squad for that Brighton game. He also showed the stats that proved the impact the English midfielder had on Newcastle’s performance last season. Apart from that, he also questioned the relationship between Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes in the midfield. Many people are asking the same question to Eddie Howe, and he finally responded.

Eddie Howe’s response to questions on Sean Longstaff

When he was asked about the absence of Sean Longstaff, Eddie Howe replied,

"“It is never that simple. I think we have options and that is the beauty of having strength in depth especially in midfield this year. And we are certainly going to need it.”"

Eddie Howe went on to explain the situation with Longstaff by saying;

"“Sean was injured during pre season so it wasn’t a case of him being moved out of the team. I couldn’t rate Sean highly enough and we missed him at the back end of last season, if you remember, a big miss. So Sean is returning to full fitness after a period out.”"

While reacting to the stats that Jamie Redknapp presented on TV, Howe said,

"“The team missed him at the back end of last season, not just the beginning of this. He’s got unbelievable endurance levels – fitness-wise he’s an incredible athlete, which is sometimes underrated. But also his brains, he’s got a very good understanding of how we want to play. Positionally he’s very good and he’s got a really good range of passing so, yeah, Sean is a top player.”"
