Newcastle United Defeated By Soaring Arsenal
By Bryan Nelson
So as usual, I watched the game and you didn’t. You either were too lazy to get up before 11 AM, or you were working on a Saturday. And while that’s completely understandable, I made sure to do it all for you. So let’s get started with what happened today at St. James Park.

Arsenal came into this match with the understanding that they’re only trailing Manchester City by the smallest of margins, one point to be exact. A victory against Newcastle brings Arsenal closer to that second place position on the table. Oliver Giroud who has been on a scoring rampage lately was also looking to add to his tallies.
Newcastle United went into the match with only 13 fit players to choose from, after dealing with a plethora of injuries and a couple of suspensions with Coloccini and Cisse. But with that, there was an opportunity for Newcastle to try something different. And let me tell you, it almost worked.
First Half:
Newcastle came out of the gates strong, both offensively and defensively. Perez kept getting offside, but he is anticipating the passes, and he kept preparing to get open. Newcastle’s defense was strong early in the first half, and Newcastle’s offense was mainly the one putting on the pressure, but it wasn’t enough when at the 24th minute Olivier Giroud scored a goal, making if five straight matches that he has scored.

But that wasn’t all that happened. Giroud scored again at the 28th minute, making it two goals for him. Both goals came from free kicks and corners, which Newcastle need to avoid giving up to the opposing team. There were a couple moments where Newcastle got in good free kick position, but they couldn’t finish.
Even though Newcastle was put down in the first half, it they continued to put the pressure on Arsenal, and they didn’t let up, even though the game seemed futile.
Second Half:
I’m going to make you wish you watched the game after this summary. While Newcastle lost today, the second half represented the type of Newcastle Untied Spirt that we need every single match. The fans were cheering, and the team was buzzing with energy and opportunities. This was truly a Newcastle United match.
In the 48th minute, Moussa Sissoko scored! It was a beautiful goal coming off of a great play by Remy Cabella swerving around the Arsenal defense. It’s the kind of skill that you look for in a guy like Cabella. That goal is what rejuvenated the Newcastle squad, and it was all they needed to put themselves back in the game, and let everyone in the stadium and watching on TV know that this match wasn’t going to be an easy defeat for them.

We got to see the skill of Ayoze Perez, who may have been getting offsides, but in the second half, he learned from his mistakes, and managed to get onside more often than off, and created numerous chances for Newcastle United. He’s a player to continue watching.
Newcastle typically has that never say die attitude, but today, that attitude was rampant. Shot after shot, Newcastle actually beat Arsenal in shots by a good 16 to 7. Newcastle also had more shots on target.
Takeaways:
Gosh so much to talk about, I could write an essay on this particular match. But today we got a chance to see Ayoze Perez performing at his best. He’s definitely going to be a future star at St. James, you heard it here first.
With a lack of depth in the team due to injuries and suspensions, Newcastle played beautifully today. Whether it be a loss or a victory, I’m proud of how they performed, and if you watched, I’m sure you would have been too. It is sad that they lost, especially because Manchester City fans were counting on us.
Newcastle plays Sunderland next week. And you can be sure that with the way that Newcastle United played today, they’ll be coming out strong to beat Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
Newcastle 1, Arsenal 2.
