Newcastle United Give Everton First Home Win
By Bryan Nelson
Newcastle United let its fans down today. They opened up the match with great opportunities but never capitalized and it ended up in a crippling loss. It hurts the morale of the players, and it hurts the morale of the fans. Everton was a team without a single home win all season. To be the team that let’s them break that streak puts the team in a lesser light.
But enough complaining. It’s time to go over what happened, because let’s face it. You didn’t watch the game, and I did. I watched it for you. So let me give you the run down of what happened. You’re going to be mad, and that’s okay.

First Half:
The first half was by far Newcastle’s best performance in the entire match. There was a corner 2 minutes in and if I was a better writer I’d describe it for you, but words cannot describe the great chance Newcastle had to put the ball away behind Tim Howard. Shot after shot after shot and yet Newcastle couldn’t get the ball in the back of the net. If you ask me, I think I saw a handball on Everton, but you’re talking to a Newcastle United fan, so am I really a credible source on whether or not it was a handball?
It was a handball.
Krul was making some very good saves in the first half, and Newcastle’s offense was putting on the pressure against Everton, but it just wasn’t enough when at the 20th minute McCarthy scores a goal for Everton. It was the only goal of the first half, and it put Newcastle behind by a goal to start the second half.
Second Half:
Newcastle United
My oh my, so much to talk about, and none of it good. Newcastle let up two more goals in the second half, and one was from an awful penalty given by Gouffran at the 54th minute. Lukaku capitalized on that penalty putting Everton ahead by two goals. But wait…there’s more. Coloccini got red carded at the 58th minute for a penalty that could easily have just been called a yellow card. So with that red card, Newcastle is now out Coloccini for the next match. Isn’t that wonderful? I’m loving this!
And to end the game, Barkley scored a goal at the 92nd minute to put salt on Newcastle’s wound. The game ended 3-0 in favor of Everton who got their first home game win of the season.
Takeaways:
Oh so much to talk about. First, I’d like to thank John Carver for his wonderful management, it’s obviously not his fault Newcastle is performing poorly. But in all seriousness, the loss of Cisse extremely hurt the team today. Had Cisse been in the lineup and played, you can be sure that on the chances Newcastle presented themselves, Cisse would have put at least one behind the net.

Other than the beginning of the first half, the match was an overall disappointment from a Newcastle United fan’s standpoint. And I think from anyone else’s standpoint, it was a bad match. The only thing I can really say I took away from this match is that Newcastle needs to step it up. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Without wins, the club’s fans are going to lose faith in the club that they’ve loved their entire lives.
To continue losing games is a death sentence for John Carver’s career at Newcastle. And I already wrote about it, but let me reiterate it. He will not be back next season.
