Although Newcastle United took a 1-0 win over Southampton in the opening Premier League match, they still need to sign a few defenders in order to assemble a quality squad to aim for a top four finish in the league table. Also, centre back Schar got a red card in the first half against Southampton, meaning he will miss the next game. Therefore, the Magpies want to sign Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi to bolster their defence this season.

However, Newcastle have submitted their fourth bid of £65 million for the 24-year-old, but it doesn’t look that Palace will sell Guehi for this transfer fee. Further, Oliver Glasner’s side have recently sold central defender Joachim Andersen for £30 million to Fulham. So, they need a replacement for Andersen and thus, are unlikely to sell Guehi as well in the same transfer window.

So, Eddie Howe’s side will need to look at other centre backs to improve their squad. Now, they may need to sign a new right back as well. Recently, The Athletic have reported that Premier League team Everton wants to sign Newcastle defender Kieran Trippier in this transfer window.

Despite the fact that Trippier is 33-years-old, he is still one of the best right back in the Premier League. Last season, Trippier scored one goal and provided nine assists for the Magpies. In the UEFA Euro 2024, Trippier started in six matches for England as they reached back to back finals in the UEFA Euro.

With only ten days remaining in the summer transfer window, Newcastle shouldn’t sell Trippier to any Premier League team. Meanwhile, Newcastle United are preparing to face Bournemouth in an away fixture in the next match.
