Marc Guehi looks set to stay at Crystal Palace after surprise transfer

- Palace sold centre back Joachim Andersen to Fulham meaning Guehi will stay at Crystal Palace this season.
In this transfer window, Newcastle United are yet to make a big signing. Looking at the squad, it is pretty clear that Eddie Howe's side want to improve their defence after conceding nearly twice the number of goals last season in the English top flight as they did in their successful 2022/23 Premier League campaign.
Hence, to keep a winning momentum throughout the league season, bringing in a reliable defender is a must. Also, in the opening match of the new season, Newcastle looked uncomfortable while defending against Southampton after Schar's early red card in the first half. Although Joelinton scored the only goal of the match, giving the Magpies the three points from the game, Newcastle need to sign a few defenders to bolster their defensive ranks when playing against top Premier League teams such as Manchester City and Arsenal.

Therefore, Newcastle United have set their sights on signing Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi. The 24-year-old has made nearly hundred appearances in the Premier League and his impressive performances led him to start in six games for England in the UEFA Euro 2024. Recently, it was reported that the Magpies had submitted their fourth bid of around £65 million for the English centre back.
However, Marc Guehi can stay at Crystal Palace this season as Oliver Glasner's side have sold central defender Joachim Andersen to Fulham for £30 million. Thus, it looks highly likely that Palace won't sell another defender in this transfer window meaning Guehi will stay at the Selhurst Park this season.
Still, if Newcastle want to sign him, they would have to pay around £100 million transfer fee to Palace as Palace also need to find replacements for Andersen and Guehi with only ten days remaining in the summer transfer window.
