It has been a much-known fact that Newcastle United had a considerably dismal transfer window performance after they failed to bring their desired reinforcements. As a result, not only the Magpies club's squad strength was compromised, but reports had enough that things hadn't been on good terms between sporting director Paul Mitchell and manager Eddie Howe.

While a few days ago, it had been circulated that the two had joined hands together to start a new beginning in the club's success project, it is clear it won't be that easy. In Newcastle's recent poor displays, a major factor has been the lack of suitable options in their season roster, and thus, it looks like it would require some decent wins to head over to a significant relationship between the two.

Meanwhile, former Liverpool star and currently one of the most renowned pundits in the sport of football, Jamie Carragher, had his say on the situation at Newcastle. Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, along with Manchester United legend Roy Keane, Carragher said,

"“From what you are hearing about the rumors within the game and you hear things speaking to people, it sounds to me like the sporting director has come in and it’s like hang on, slow down.""

As Carragher mentioned, Paul Mitchell's strategy is to do things differently, improvising the already existing transfer window strategies and fund spending. Not to forget, he had clearly spoken about the unsustainable methodology existing at the club, and that needs to be changed to get things in the right direction in the future.

In response to Carragher's statement, Roy Keane replied as to what needs to be done by Eddie Howe to ease the existing tension at the club. Keane said,

"“They say the hardest part of management is managing upwards, so this is another side to him. He’s vastly experienced; he’s done a brilliant job; now he has to get over the next few months.”"

Since Saudi Arabia took over the Newcastle club in 2021, a major factor in the club's recorded progress has been Eddie Howe's managerial skills. As Keane mentioned, being the experienced manager he is, Eddie Howe needs to give some time to Paul Mitchell to improve things and get over the next few months smoothly.

Given that both Eddie Howe and Paul Mitchell have been in their profession for years now, things would significantly improve if the duo sustained themselves during this difficult phase at the club. Overall, in the end, it is quite clear that significant efforts from both Eddie Howe and Paul Mitchell would be required to steer things in the right direction, making a union between the two necessary.
