After playing a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth, Newcastle have increased their efforts to sign a new centre back in this transfer window. Although former Crystal Palace star Clinton Morrison said that he believes Marc Guehi will join the Magpies, it looks unlikely as Palace have rejected Newcastle's fourth bid for Guehi. Further, Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner made Guehi as the new captain suggesting that they don't want to sell the 24-year-old in this transfer window.

Eddie Howe's side have five days to bolster their squad with new signings before the transfer window closes. Therefore, Newcastle United have set their sights on Bundesliga Champions Bayer Leverkusen's star defender Edmond Tapsoba. Tapsoba made 46 appearances for Leverkusen last season, scoring three goals and keeping 12 clean sheets that helped Leverkusen win the Bundesliga and the German Cup as well.

Now, speaking after Bayer Leverkusen's 3-2 win over Monchengladbach in the opening match, Edmond Tapsoba expressed his ambitions to stay at Leverkusen and win more titles this season.

"Yes, I’m fully focused on Leverkusen. This season we fight for everything, every title we win, and I’m fully focused on Leverkusen."

Now Newcastle United need to consider signing other centre backs as they struggled to defend against Bournemouth in the second match. Therefore, the Magpies need to consider signing a few players from Chelsea, who want to sell defenders like Trevoh Chalobah and Ben Chilwell. Moreover, Premier League analyst Paul Merson suggested that Newcastle should sign Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling, who will complete a world class front three alongside Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon at the St. James Park.

Now it remains to be seen which players Newcastle decide to sign in this transfer window.
