With only three days remaining in the summer transfer window, Newcastle United are trying to sign Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi to bolster their defence. This week, Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner made Guehi as the new Crystal Palace captain and revealed that the 24-year-old will stay at the Selhurst Park this season. After facing a 2-0 defeat against West Ham in that match, Crystal Palace started their first match in the Carabao Cup with an away fixture against Norwich City.

Palace took a massive 4-0 win over Norwich and advanced to the next round in the Carabao Cup. Marc Guehi again captained Palace and played brilliantly throughout the match. However, with this match, Guehi has become cup-tied, meaning, if Guehi joins any other Premier League team in this transfer window, he isn't eligible to play for them in the Carabao Cup as he has already featured for Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup this season.

Hence, even, if Newcastle United complete the signing of Marc Guehi in this summer transfer window, he can't play for the Magpies in the Carabao Cup. Newcastle United want to win a trophy this season, thus, they are aiming to perform well in the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup. Now, if they progress further in the Carabao Cup and face top Premier League teams, they can't play Guehi, which can lead to the Magpies facing a defeat in the Carabao Cup match.

On top of that, they will need to pay upwards of £85 million to sign him, which isn't looking likely at the moment as Crystal Palace don't want to sell Guehi this season. Therefore, Eddie Howe's side need to look at other centre back options, to bolster their squad. Meanwhile, Newcastle United are preparing to face Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup.
