Newcastle United seem to be losing much with their star forward injured
- Star forward Callum Wilson has been injured for months now and is being reported to return soon.
- Newcastle's forward, Callum Wilson's unavailability has been impacting the club significantly.
Apart from Newcastle's poor start to the new Premier League campaign, their injury concerns have been much of a burden on them lately. Given that the Magpies club had a cold transfer window, and on top of that, having their key players, Callum Wilson, Sven Botman, and Jamaal Lascelles injured, the club has failed to enjoy significant squad depth this season.

While so far, none of the club's compartments—defense, midfield, or attack—have looked efficient, one of the major reasons for their sloppy displays this season has been their out-of-form attack. Despite having names like Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon, and Harvey Barnes, the club's management has only dropped on Barnes, who has been consistent so far.
Although Gordon's case can be understood with him requiring time to adjust on the right wing, Isak's performances have been much disappointing this season. Netting a single time so far, the Swedish international has failed to replicate what is expected from a striker of such repute. Moreover, with their backup option Callum Wilson injured, the club has been going much anonymous from the front.
In the whole scenario, a crucial reason for the club's recent suffering has been the absence of their 32-year-old number 9, Callum Wilson. Not to forget, before Isak's rise to the role, Wilson used to be the Magpies' priority number 9, and the club's most successful campaign in recent years, their 2022–23 season, had key inputs from the English forward.
However, with him being out for a hamstring injury after facing a back issue in the preseason, Wilson's absence has reduced Isak's competition for a place in the lineup. Although Isak's poor form definitely hasn't much connection with Wilson's return date, it could have been beneficial for the club's perspective, given Wilson could have been clinical in front of the goal in the 24-year-old's lack of form.
As recent reports suggest, the club's former priority number 9, Wilson, is set to return after the international break, possibly in their home fixture against Brighton. Till that time, Eddie Howe's side would miss a competition for Isak, which could have helped him regain his form better. Overall, Newcastle fans would hope that Callum Wilson returns soon, helping in the club's number 9 role.
