Newcastle had a quiet January transfer window, which was to be expected given the fact that FFP were breathing down Eddie Howe's neck. According to a report from Football Insider, Newcastle are very keen on signing Everton midfielder Amadou Onana in the summer transfer window, having successfully compiled a scouting dossier.

Here's what the journalist and transfer expert Pete O'Rourke had to say in the article: "Newcastle have compiled an extensive scouting dossier on Onana ahead of a possible swoop for the Belgium international in the off-season. It is believed the Magpies see the Everton midfielder as a big upgrade on some of their current midfield options."

It's no surprise that the Newcastle scouts have fallen in love with Onana, who is known as the complete package at Goodison Park. The 22-year-old midfielder often looks like the most senior player on the pitch due to his great ability to complete all the basics, while looking flashy on the ball.

For those old-fashioned football fans who recall the days of Patrick Vieira, Steven Gerrard or even Roy Keane, Onana is certainly a midfielder who gives flashbacks to those days. While those are big boots to fill, Onana is a breath of fresh air as he plays football the way it should be played, while having the resilience of the midfielders before his time.

Onana is incredibly versatile, which would certainly help Eddie Howe in his bid to bounce back next season. Admittedly, the Magpies haven't lived up to their expectations this season, but this is down to multiple factors including tougher fixtures and, of course, injuries. To bring in a multidimensional player like Onana would help them out massively and as far as Howe is concerned, he would've welcomed him with open arms if it were possible in January.

What do you make of the recent Newcastle transfer target, Amadou Onana? wWuld he be a good fit under Eddie Howe?
