A large part of the Newcastle transfer news in recent days has involved the transfer story linking Kieran Trippier with a move to Bayern Munich. For those who aren't aware, the Bavarian side first showed an interest in the full-back at the weekend, but the rumours settled a little after Newcastle rejected Bayern's opening offer for Trippier.

But, could Bayern Munich still be interested in signing Kieran Trippier. Well, according to reports from Sky in Germany, the Bundesliga champions are still keeping an eye on Trippier, but he may end up being too costly for them.

Here's what Florian Plettenberg had to say: "To our understanding he has a salary of around €7m to €8m gross per year if he would join Bayern. The target for Bayern is not to spend so much money for Trippier. Nevertheless, I think that Trippier is the hottest option right now for Bayern."

So, it's Kieran Trippier's wage demands which could be a problem for Bayern Munich and I must say, I side with Trippier on this one. He is nearing the end of his career, so he has two options: He could either take a pay cut and move elsewhere, where he isn't guaranteed regular football or he could stay at Newcastle on a higher salary while still playing week in, week out.

To me, the answer is clear for Trippier. He would be silly to take a cut in pay AND game time by joining Bayern Munich, where the football is less competitive anyway.

Trippier has been one of our best players this season and he has done well to overcome his recent period of bad form. Certainly, the injury crisis would have looked a lot worse if we didn't have versatile players like Trippier in our ranks.
