While we would like to focus the Newcastle transfer news around incomings, it's important that we address the realistic outgoings too. While this squad is the best it's been in a few decades, it's not shy of its shortcomings and areas which could do with improvement.

One of those areas, and many people will disagree with me, is the striker position. While it's not the most important area we need to strengthen in, if we're being realistic, we do need to sign a world-class option to partner Alexander Isak.

Callum Wilson is an excellent striker and he has a great striker's instinct. We know that he has a great working relationship with Eddie Howe too, as reported by Football Fancast, Howe described him as "excellent" back when the two worked together at Bournemouth

According to a claim by Caught Offside, Callum Wilson is one of three players who are at risk of being sold in 2024. The other two include defensive pair Matt Target and Javi Manquillo. The reason why Wilson is walking on a tightrope, according to the report, is his injury record.

I must say that I do agree with this stance. While Wilson is an excellent goal scorer and a great presence to have in and around the team, his injury record is the one thing which hinders not only himself, but the team. We cannot rely on a player who can't get a consistent run of games without injuring himself.

It could be a case of luck or poor fitness, but either way, it affects us in a negative way. It's impossible to find consistency when the player leading the line isn't consistent with his fitness level. Plus, he isn't getting any younger.
