Unfortunately for Eddie Howe, much of the Newcastle injury news in the last few weeks has been negative. It's no secret that there's an injury crisis at St James Park and whenever it looks to be fixed, it's a case one step forward, two steps backward. With that in mind, Eddie Howe has some serious decisions to make about incomings and outgoings in the January transfer window.
Newcastle injury news: Eddie Howe faces scare from forgotten about English midfielder
One player who maybe forgotten about is Isaac Hayden. Still technically a Newcastle player as he's out on loan, he seems to have carried the St James curse with him. Starting out life on loan well, the English midfielder is struggling for game time and according to Sudinfo, the Standard Liege loanee isn't 100% fit, which explains him being cut out of the first team since the last international break.
Isaac Hayden is 28 years old and unfortunately, is a case of a player who had a lot of potential but never truly made it. To be struggling for game time at the peak of your ability is not a good look, and it doesn't look like he has a future when he returns to St James Park.
Nobody is denying that Newcastle could do with another midfielder given their injury crisis and the suspension for Sandro Tonali, but unfortunately, Isaac Hayden is not that guy. Hayden has until the summer of 2026 on his current Newcastle contract, but I would expect him to be a sale when he returns from loan.
According to the aforementioned report, it is discomfort in his knee which is causing Hayden concern. It's been a nagging issue for him, so it could affect his time with us when he eventually returns from injury.
