Along with Tottenham, we are battling for a spot in the top four. It will be a much more difficult objective to achieve this season than it was last season as the competition is stronger this season and we have additional matches to play in Europe - Oh, I guess you could say the injury crisis doesn't help, either.
But it is for these three reasons why investing in the squad come the new year is absolutely pivotal. We have already reported that Eddie Howe's transfer plans have changed since he now prioritises a move for a new goalkeeper, but this won't deter us from our usual transfer strategy which is to sign upcoming young talents to strengthen with the future in mind.
Since arriving as Newcastle boss, Eddie Howe has done an exceptional job and it now seems that Newcastle is the hub for English talent. With that in mind, should Iling-Junior decide to leave the historic Serie A side, then playing for Newcastle in his home country is a pretty safe bet.
While we can never make promises under the unpredictable Gareth Southgate, but there could even be a place for Iling-Junior at EURO 2024 should he impress immediately at Newcastle. Although, his immediate goal will be to fill the void left by the Harvey Barnes injury.
