Newcastle transfer news: Erik ten Hag reject wants to prove a point under Eddie Howe

Well, to describe David de Gea as an Erik ten Hag reject is a little harsh, but ultimately that's how his time at Manchester United ended. Although, Ten Hag rejected him and turning towards a different goalkeeper isn't reflective of De Gea's immense talent - I'm almost certain that the Dutch manager regrets his decision now, or at least he should do if he isn't blind.

According to a report from The Express, David de Gea is very interested in signing for Newcastle United and the spot which has opened due to the Nick Pope injury is one which very much appeals to De Gea. He is being linked with a short-term contract to play under Erik ten Hag, in a move which benefits all parties involved.

Newcastle are in dire need of a new goalkeeper. Not only is Nick Pope out injured for the rest of the year, but it looks like Martin Dubravka might be carrying a knock too. This has forced Eddie Howe into considering Loris Karius' second appearance for the Magpies in the Champions League on Wednesday evening, in a competition which he doesn't have fond memories of.

Bringing in a player of David de Gea's quality and stature would do amazing things for the club and it is the most financially sensible option, since the money saved on a free transfer could be invested into another position of need.
