Newcastle transfer news: Eddie Howe shortlists rapid £42m striker to replace Wilson
By Kian Long
In today's Newcastle transfer news, we revealed that Newcastle planned to keep ahold of Callum Wilson. However, he is only thought to remain a Toon player until the end of the season, when Eddie Howe will look to bring in another option to replace the injury-prone striker.
That is exactly Wilson's problem. There is no denying he's a terrific striker who gets on well with Eddie Howe after a long period of time working together. However, the English striker is not reliable when it comes to starting, or even being available, for every game in the season because he is injured more often than not.

With that in mind, it's thought that the Magpies will look to other options in order to replace the injury-prone Wilson. According to a sensational claim from Football Transfers, RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko will become a primary target for Eddie Howe in the summer transfer window, when he will be keen to bolster his squad options with some players ageing.
In Germany, Sesko struggles for game time but not for the same reason as Wilson. He struggles for game time because he is part of a sensational attacking lineup which is hard to get into. When you factor in this alongside his £42m release clause, he could be an easy steal for Newcastle.
It is stated within the report that Eddie Howe has sent out scouts to watch Sesko and they were impressed with what they saw, even stretching back to when he was at Salzburg. As a rapid striker who likes to get in behind, he would be an excellent backup for Alexander Isak and would provide a different avenue in the attack if Howe needs it.
