This season, Newcastle have experienced a whirlwind of emotions. They have found themselves knocked out of two trophies in the last couple of weeks while maintaining an injury crisis. With that being said, they have started the season well overall given the consequences and we can now expect the Newcastle transfer news to come thick and fast, with the January transfer window set to open in just over a week.

But Eddie Howe isn't focused on external recruitments just yet. Rather than focusing on who he can bring in to fix, the English boss is understandably looking at ways to keep his current players happy. After all, there's no good building a project if you let go of your best players.

Newcastle transfer news: Eddie Howe opens in-house talks with 17-year-old Lewis Miley

According to a report by The Telegraph, Newcastle United have opened talks with Lewis Miley about signing him on a longer contract when he turns 18 this season. The midfielder has become a regular for us in both the Premier League and Champions League, and having already scored his first Premier League goal, Eddie Howe would like to keep him for the future.

Indeed, Lewis Miley has been thrown in the deep end as he was forced to cover some injuries in fairly big injuries. However, he's played so well that the thought of Miley being dropped from the starting eleven to make room for players returning from injury seems unfair to me. In fact, I would say that he deserves to play in the starting eleven more than some players who are set to return.

As a player who has come through our youth academy, Miley embodies everything this great club is about. He just gets it and he resonates with us as fans and he seems very happy to be at the club. It would be great to see him putting pen to paper as an 18-year-old.
