Newcastle transfer news: Eddie Howe ready to "hijack" West Ham's main striker target

Thankfully, there is good news in that regard. According to a report from Football Insider, Newcastle United are one of three clubs (alongside Man United and AC Milan) who are ready to hijack West Ham's proposed deal for Serhou Guirassy.

The striker, who currently plays for Stuttgart, is currently linked with a move away from the Bundesliga given his electric start to the season. In the German top flight, only Harry Kane has scored more goals than Guirassy, who has netted on 17 occasions already this season. A very impressive start from an unexpected player, hence the interest from some of Europe's biggest clubs.

The Magpies have been interested in signing Guirassy for some time now, which begs the question why we haven't made a move yet. Then again, the St James Park hierarchy may be deciphering who the best long-term signings would be, as opposed to making quickfire transfers to provide a short-term solution.

In my opinion, Guirassy would be a sensible option. Granted, he may not have Premier League experience but he is very high on confidence right now and he has proven he can provide goals at the highest level. Furthermore, ageing at 27 years old, he is at the peak of his career, so could provide his best years to Newcastle.
