Much of the upcoming Newcastle transfer news as we are in the final two weeks of the January transfer window may depend on whether or not the club sells a player. With FFP breathing down the neck of Eddie Howe's club, he may be forced to sell one of his star players, with Bruno Guimaraes likely to be his most profitable asset.

Many clubs are interested in signing Bruno G, with European giants Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona already showing their interest. I don't know if anyone saw this coming, but Arsenal have also stuck their beaks in and are tipped with a good chance of signing the star Brazilian.

Well, that's according to Football London, who will obviously have their own agenda to appease their main demographic which are Arsenal fans. Their report states that Newcastle have handed Arsenal an advantage to sign Bruno Guimaraes since the Geordies are pursuing a move for Ederson of Atalanta.

While it is true that we are hopeful to sign Ederson, I don't see Ederson being the Bruno Guimaraes replacement he's made out to be. In fact, it would be counter-intuitive to bring in a midfielder, only to lose one the other way. Bruno G has been one of our better players this season and he needs to be backed up, not replaced, by other star players.

I have accepted the reality that we are likely to lose at least one big player between now and the end of the season, but I can't see it being Bruno Guimaraes personally. The player seems happy at the club and Eddie Howe is a big fan of his too. Still, I guess time will tell if there is substance behind this story.
