With January fast approaching, the Newcastle transfer news is coming in thick and fast. For those who have been living under a rock and is unfamiliar with our current situation then firstly, I am jealous and secondly, let me inform you about out injury crisis. There's no better way to put it than we have almost a full team of players our injured and although some players are slowly making their returns, Eddie Howe has struggled to rotate his squad with the busy December schedule.

Keeping this in mind, it's no surprise to see that we are being linked with multiple transfers and some big names are starting to creep up. Speaking of big names, Alan Shearer who is a big enough name in himself, has suggested that Eddie Howe should go out and re-sign a former Newcastle striker.

Newcastle transfer news: Alan Shearer persuades Eddie Howe to re-sign Arsenal target

Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Alan Shearer has suggested that Newcastle should go out and sign Ivan Toney in the new year...

"“I think he’s a really good player and I think he’s a really good option. Newcastle need to improve in that department, and they need another option in there, so I don’t think there will be any shortage of suitors for Ivan Toney.”"

Alan Shearer (quoted by TBR Football)

I must say that I do agree with Alan Shearer. While we aren't exactly short of striker options, the options we do have are risky as they are injured more often than not. With that in mind, bringing in a Premier League experienced striker to keep Isak and Wilson on their toes wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, particularly given Wilson's age.

Toney started his career with Newcastle before he was sent out on multiple loan spells. In the end, he only made two appearances for the Magpies, so he may feel like he has unfinished business.
